Concrete Piers, Footings and Caissons
The choice of Welded Wire Reinforcement to provide the required steel in Piers, Footings and Caissons will save you time and money while giving you a better solution. Certain advantages received by its use, make it a good option. In large square or rectangular footings, large diameter wire can provide the required area of steel in one or two mats while meeting anchorage requirements easier than with rebar. Placing costs and time of construction are two factors that contractors find appealing. In continuous footings, the area of steel required could be made up of long narrow sheets that can be quickly laid in the trench and supported at the proper level by wire supports.
Caissons
Cages made of large mats of Welded Wire Reinforcement can be fabricated by using mesh benders or rollers to create the desired shape. The proper amount of steel can be designed into the sheet of Welded Wire Reinforcement, or for heavily reinforced caissons, rebar can be added to the mats by tying them to the mesh mat before lowering it into the caisson. Large diameter wire used as spirals gives the Engineer the opportunity to use the higher yield strength available and save steel.
