Concrete Tilt-Up Walls
Welded Wire Reinforcement is a natural extension to the reinforcing industry in providing easy and cost effective ways of reinforcing structures. Nowhere is this more evident than in tilt up construction market.
Prior to using welded wire reinforcement, contractors spent days tying thousands of individual reinforcing bars before pouring concrete. Now with the advancements of welded wire reinforcement, contractors can place a few hundred sheets in half the time, saving both in time and labor.
Customized sheets are designed based on the contractor’s needs and their installation plan. Depending on the method of installation, sheets can be designed to be installed by crane or by hand.
Generally, installing larger sheets speeds up installation and reduces the number of laps. Larger sheets are, by their very nature, heavier than smaller sheet and may require the use of a crane. The cost of the crane is offset by the increase in production. If a contractor elects to install sheets by hand, Ivy Steel & Wire can design welded wire reinforcement sheets that can be handled by a four man crew. More sheets are required in the panel but they can be installed without any equipment. The choice is up to the contractor, and Ivy’s design team is ready to assist.
Depending on the design of the panels, additional savings can be realized by converting the conventional grade 60 reinforcing steel into high strength grade 80 welded wire reinforcement. Converting from grade 60 rebar into grade 80 welded wire reinforcement allows the designer to reduce the area of steel by 25% but maintain the strength. The ACI 318 code permits the use of grade 80 steel for design of sheer and flexure reinforcement.
