Concrete Foundation Walls
Footers and foundation walls are excellent applications for welded wire reinforcement. The detail illustrates the conversion of #4 and #6 bars at 12” on center. Individual welded wire reinforcement sheets are developed for this application. The #4 bars are converted into a 6 x 6 D7.5/D7.5 grade 80 sheet with a bent hook for anchoring into the footer sheet. The #6 bars in the footer convert into a 4 x 4 D11/D11 grade 80 sheet.
It is estimated that installation of welded wire reinforcement in this application can increase productivity by a factor of four.
Footers are typically excavated three to four feet deep below ground. Contractors using conventional reinforcing bars are hauling many individual bars into a three to four foot deep trench, then tying the bar and placing concrete.
Using welded wire reinforcement significantly reduces the amount of installation time by eliminating steel tying, as is necessary with rebar. When given the option of installing and tying many individual bars or placing a few custom prefabricated sheets, contactors look to Ivy Steel & Wire to save them time and money.
